Cambria Press Author Anthony Rausch at the 2012 Asian Studies Association (AAS) Annual Conference in Toronto

Professor Anthony Rausch at the Cambria Press booth with his book.

An unexpected visitor was Professor Anthony Rausch who came all the way from Japan! It was delightful to meet him after such an intense collaboration process on his book, Japan’s Shrinking Regions in the 21st Century: Contemporary Responses to Depopulation and Socioeconomic Decline, which he coauthored with Professor Peter Matanle and the Shrinking Regions Research Group. This erudite book, which spans over 500 pages, is the first comprehensive study of regional shrinkage under Japan’s national depopulation. Interspersed throughout with numerous illustrations, the book reveals a richly textured examination of shrinkage at the local level, from which emerges the overall story of Japan’s depopulation and its place within the trajectory of world development. The book has already earned praise from experts in the field.
